Money Money Money....monnneeeyyyy

I'm not sure if others have had this problem of not being able to find money.  Due to the economy we have been struggling to find extra financial assistance to cover our living costs.  Our school only allots a certain amount to student whether they are single, married or have kids...which means if you are married and have a child it's not enough to live off of.  Over the winter break we looked for more funding.  The only other loans we were able to get was from Wells Fargo and the interest rate was 10% and it is ridiculous.  We called every bank and credit union we could find an NO ONE was lending money.

I mean really, a dental student is one of the safest investments and I was so surprised that there was nothing out there for a professional student.  In the end we were able to find a private investor who will give us a loan.  I'm wondering what others are doing.  Are your parents paying for it?  As a spouse, are you working?  Let me know.

On a side note, if you aren't in dental school yet or aren't getting any government assistance, I advise you to do so.  I had a hard time with this situation and after much consideration we were able to get assistance for food and healthcare. It is a pain to apply but it is worth every penny that we are saving and the peace of mind that we do have health insurance.  I figure it's not going to be long term, we have already paid for it by paying our taxes and it's what it's there for.

  1. we our so grateful to be able to receive food stamps and medicaid for our little girl. we are also lucky to have found a very affordable place to live. i have unfortunately had to deffer paying my own student loans for awhile considering we really don't have the money for it. we are still really tight on money, we haven't tried extra loans, we are making it for now (barely). i know most the husbands in my hubby's class have actually joined the military (which doesn't necessarily give you a ton of money to live off of) which gives you a stipend to live off of.
its definitely stressful, thats for sure.
do you have other wives that you get together with? do you guys do play groups or anything? if so what kind of things do you guys do when its cold?

  2. Hi there I just found your blog as I was looking for a sympathizer to the thankless job of being a dental student's wife. My husband recently joined the air force, which has a scholarship that pays for your tuition, a monthly stipend (not enough to cover all costs, but most of ours), because it's a scholarship you still get government aid, and they reimburse you for things like loupes, a dslr camera for oral pics and other needed equipment. It's making the world of difference for us and my hubby will only have to be in the air force for however many years they pay for. Once graduated and in the air force, we'll recieve free housing, food allowance and perhaps the best part is that my husband wont have to worry about buying equipment or insurance, he just walks in there and does his job.
Definitely a decision we're pleased with.
